Sussex Spaniel Rescue Information: The Sussex Spaniel is a thickset, powerful dog. Sussex Spaniels are more reserved than other Spaniels. However, Sussex Spaniels are very companionable, especially with children. Sussex Spaniels may be combative with strange dogs. Sussex Spaniels are more lethargic than other Spaniels and can do just fine in an apartment if they get enough exercise.

Sussex Spaniel Trivia: The Sussex Spaniel is the only Spaniel that bays on the hunt. Sussex Spaniels were first bred in nineteenth century Sussex, England. Sussex Spaniels would probably have died off during World War II were it not for a dedicated breeder named Joy Freer who saved eight dogs. Sussex Spaniels are among the rarest of the Spaniels. Sussex Spaniels can make good watchdogs.
